The federal government has pledged to tackle food insecurity in the country through modern and holistic agricultural programmes and policies.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, disclosed this at the ‘walk and sensitisation’ segment of the celebration of the 2017 World Food Day with the theme: ‘Change the future of migration: Invest in Agriculture and Rural Development.’
Ogbeh said the federal government had introduced an array of agricultural programmes to ensure food security and the long term economic growth of the nation.
“Accordingly, the Federal Government of Nigeria has committed itself on tackling food security in the nation and also to respond to the current challenges of food insecurity,’’ the minister stated.
He also said over the years, Nigeria agricultural sector had been focusing on the conventional paradigm of harnessing resources to sustain food security and that presently, the ministry is committed to making the sector a pivot for economic stabilization in diversifying, generating employment and creating wealth in the country.
