NDE Trains 30 C’River Youths in Agric

The National Directorate of Employment has commenced a four-month training programme for 30 unemployed youths in agribusiness economy in the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The Director-General of NDE, Dr. Mohammed Ladan, said that the training was designed to help farmers improve on their farming skills through constant use of modern technology.

According to him, the beneficiaries will be trained at the NDE Agricultural Skills Training Centre in Nde community in Ikom Local Government Area.

Ladan, who was represented by the state Coordinator of NDE, Mr. Gabriel Udam, explained that the training would help local farmers to enhance their quality of food production, improve their income and save cost.

He said that the training would involve three approaches, which he gave as two weeks’ adaptive field training in crops/livestock; trainee farmers’ mentorship; and link with development and money deposit banks.

The other aspect, Ladan said, would involve the identification of off-takers within the locality to reduce the risks of produce glut in the market.
